Yen Ching Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Yen Ching Restaurant, you’re greeted by a quiet, thoughtful ambiance that feels instantly welcoming. This isn’t a place rushing forward with flair or volume, but rather one inviting you to settle into the rhythm of a relaxed meal. The low hum of conversation mingles with subtle decor details that echo a classic yet understated Chinese dining experience—an atmosphere where the flavours take centre stage and the pace encourages you to savor each bite.
The heart of Yen Ching lies in its sincere approach to traditional Chinese cooking, where dishes arrive fresh and thoughtfully prepared. Whether it’s the delicately crispy edges of orange chicken or the comforting warmth of their San Shan Soup, each plate invites you to explore textures and layers of familiar yet carefully balanced flavours. The menu hints at a broad spectrum, from satisfying seafood selections to the nuanced notes of eggplant with garlic sauce, offering moments that feel both comforting and curious to the palate without overwhelming.
It’s easy to imagine locals and visitors alike finding their own quiet corners here—some drawn by the freshness of the house specials, others by the homey comfort of a crab cream puff or a bowl of beef chow mein. The staff moves with an attentive but unobtrusive grace, supporting a calm dining experience rather than interrupting it, enhancing the feeling that this is a neighborhood spot meant for sharing time, not just food.
Yen Ching holds a subtle charm in its balance of tradition and simplicity, where details like a steady selection of fresh prawns or perfectly fried pot stickers become small moments of genuine discovery. It’s these human touches—friendly service paired with a beautifully appointed interior—that make it more than a meal, but a place you might find yourself returning to whenever the pace of the day calls for something steady, satisfying, and thoughtfully familiar.

We came for the house chicken. It was so fresh, hot and tasty. My wife and I really enjoyed our lunch specials and Crab Cream Puffs. The staff is great and the inside is decorated so very beautifully. Highly recommend for everyone to check this place out. Try the House Chicken!

Well..Here I am in Lodi...Again! Every time I find myself in Lodi I say how the hell did this happen? I was just going out for pizza and a beer at Brickbats Pickleback, and meet up with Hoboken Joe, and Hairlip Louie when the KWOK station started playing nothing but CCR and Lynyrd Skynyrd, and I was hypnotized...All the way to Lodi. I came to my senses in the parking lot of the Yen Ching Chinese Restaurant, and figured hell I'll just go in and have Chinese, so I did and it was Amazing! Well worth the trip from Napa. 5

The service was good but not particularly engaging. The biggest annoyance was the lack of ability to substitute, even with an upcharge, I would a reasonable uncharted to pork fried rice or a different soup. The policy detracts from really good food and a uniquely Chinese atmosphere.
